Check out these 5 movies which offer pretty memorable scenes that take place on the mountain. While I chose not to list ski movies like Aspen Extreme, Ski School or Out Cold, these are definitely sequences worth taking a look at.

1)  Dumb and Dumber (1994)

Harry (Jeff Daniels) and Mary (Lauren Holly) spend the day on the slopes building snowmen, getting into snowball fights and doing a little skiing.  The famous scene also teaches us not to lick frost off the side of a chairlift.

2)  Spellbound (1945)

Hitchcock is known for being the master of suspense but his ski scene in Spellbound hardly stands the test of time.  While it’s a pivotal turning point in the film, it can really only be laughed at by its cheesiness.  Watching Gregory Peck and Ingrid Bergman ski down the mountain and make turns against a screen is laughable. It really is so bad that it’s good, and is Gregory Peck wearing a suit jacket?

3) Hot Tub Time Machine (2010)

John Cusask and friends discover a time machine at a ski resort but not before they hit the slopes for some skiing.  This scene shows the four friends pulling off some excellent tricks and moves…that is until they have an epic ski accident worth watching.

4)  Better Off Dead (1985)

Apparently John Cusack likes skiing.  In 1985, as he follows a girl he has fallen in love with to the mountain where he’s forced prove his masculinity when his pride is challenged. The love interest skis the difficult terrain then turns back to watch Cusack fail at his attempt.  You then get a cheesy 80s ski scene with tricks that you really should never try to pull off on your local slopes.

5) Bond Movies

There are 3 Bond movies that feature ski sequences so they’re all compiled under this final one.

The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) – If you only have time for one James Bond ski scene to watch, this is the one.  It was shot very well and has a lot of great 007 elements to it including a gun in the ski pole.  Roger Moore plays the debonair British spy.

The World is Not Enough (1999) – There really isn’t much to this one.  In a long list of lackluster action sequences in the bond movies, this one seems pretty forced and uninteresting.  Apparently every time James Bond skis, the bad guys try to kill him.

For Her Eyes Only (1981) – Roger Moore must like skiing as much as John Cusack.  In this Bond flick, Moore returns for a ski scene that defines the 1980’s.  From synthesized music to the silliest of chase scenes, this one ranks as bad enough to be good and has more cheese than Wisconsin.

Am I missing any classic ski scenes?  Let me know!
