Kicking off their third season the Salomon QST Series for men and women are loaded with technology to deliver an excellent experience on the mountain. The majority of the QST Series skis have received a little facelift with a reinforcement update in the top two models for men.

Who is the Salomon QST for?

Salomon makes a QST for every level of skier from the athletic beginner to the aggressive skiing expert. With the shapes, waist widths and rocker profiles these are fine examples of true all-mountain skis that are totally capable of slicing smooth turns on the frontside, diving into deep snow and conquering any type of terrain in between.

What Technologies go into the Salomon QST?

C/FX3 is the next evolution of a construction that Salomon started a few seasons ago. C/FX 3 combines Carbon and Flax to add remarkable strength and power to the ski that allow you to test your speed limits and motor through difficult conditions without adding extra weight. C/FX 3 actually reduces the total weight of the ski.

Salomon QST 106 Skis

A Basalt Layer has been added to the QST 106 and QST 99. Basalt is a volcanic rock that has been used in ski constructions before and is becoming more common. Basalt has an incredibly high strength to weight ratio and is a perfect additive to a ski construction to boost up stability while keeping the weight to a minimum.

You will find a Koroyd Tip in each QST ski. This reduces the swingweight of the ski by making the ski lighter in the tip. This honeycomb shaped material also improves flotation, eliminates tip wobble and deflects negative vibrations caused from heavy or cruddy snow conditions.

The Pulse Pad dampening system does a fantastic job of dampening out vibrations. This rubber layer lines the edges of the ski and is added to some other areas to deliver a smooth ride down the mountain.

What QST Ski is for me?

Let’s take a look model by model:

Salomon QST 106 Skis

QST 106 is a ripping ride for the advanced to expert skier. One of the most admirable qualities of the ski is that you do not have to be the biggest or most aggressive skier to reap the benefits. Twin Rocker has a more rockered tip and more rocker in the tail to keep you floating and smearing in all of the fresh snow. The 106mm waist is very edgy and quick for those days when the snow is not so deep and fresh. Many skiers this season will be paring the QST 106 with the new Salomon Shift MNC (Link when Live) as an ultra-lightweight binding that is fully compatible with AT boot soles that charges in-bounds as well.

Salomon QST 99 Skis

QST 99 makes an excellent choice for the strong intermediate to aggressive expert who will be dividing their time equally between the groomed piste and ungroomed terrain. The aforementioned Basalt Layer adds a little extra stiffness and even better handling on icy or firm slopes. The All-Terrain Rocker 2.0 has slightly less rocker in the tip and tail for a stronger groomer performance.

Salomon QST Lux 92

QST 92 and QST Lux 92 are perfect options for the athletic intermediate to advanced level skier who regularly skis in the Rockies on the groomers and in the mellow ungroomed terrain. The shape and waist width allow for slicing medium radius turns. The 92mm waist rolls over crud and floats in fresh snow while not feeling very demanding or fatiguing to ski. This waist width is in that perfect sweet spot for pounding through the bumps.

Salomon QST Myriad 85 Skis

QST Myriad 85 is a great ride for the athletic beginner to solid intermediate skier. The Semi Sandwich Construction uses a Monocoque Cap Construction in the tip and tail that improves maneuverability and adds some forgiveness. The Vertical Sidewall directly underneath the binding platform offers edge grip when slopes get icy. If you want to eventually start making your way off piste this is the QST that will help you build confidence and improve your skills.
