Elan Skis just launched the official mini-site for their new skis, the Ripstick. Straight up, these skis are pushing more preseason hype than just about any other single piece of gear I’ve ever seen. On top of the internet buzz, our office buzz is huge. At one of the major ski events in the industry, our buyer, head tech, director of marketing and (now retired) Ski-E-O all had the opportunity to ski the Ripstick and all had the same reaction. Fun, playful, poppy skis that charge hard anywhere on the mountain.

So, what makes the Ripstick such a bomber ski? Well, it started from the design and finished in the execution. The skis were built with the sole intention of being the go-to ski for the hardest, steepest and deepest terrain. It’s built with an all-wood core that uses carbon tubing to help deal with dampening and Elan’s Vaportip Inserts to keep these skis super lightweight and smooth. I should note, one of the top comments about these skis is just how light they feel underfoot especially for how stiff and supportive they remain at high speed in challenging terrain.

The tech that’s been combined to create these is a combination of “new and old.” As mentioned above, swapping out the traditional metal core helps create a playful and energetic feel that’s unmatched in most modern skis. The tech extends out from the core as well to include their Amphibio and SST Sidewalls for added maneuverability without compromise to power or grip. Here’s a quick video for all you tech nerds out there like me:

And, don’t worry ladies, Elan made a pair for you too, and unlike some other women’s skis, you’ll get all the performance features and technology to charge hard through the deepest powder.

If you’re in the market for a new set of skis and you have the opportunity to demo these, do it. Get out there, literally anywhere on the mountain in any conditions and give these skis a try. The reviews are raving and the feedback has been nothing but positive.
